Splendid Skies

Several times over the past couple of weeks I have been absolutely awed by the sheer beauty of the skies. Every time I get in the car to go somewhere I find myself speechless and humbled by the magnificence of God's creation. Last night when I was working in the concession stand at the optimist park I kept ducking down from my french fry station to catch a peek through the window of these mesmerizing hues of pinks and purples that were splayed out so gloriously across the horizon.

There's also just been this sort of warm, magical, October glow about the air, especially in the late afternoons and early evenings, just before sunset. It's really amazing how much sharper the senses become when we remind ourselves to step up and take notice of these ever-present moments of everyday extraordinary.

I picked Dracen up from his first P.E. Club practice yesterday afternoon (where he is learning to juggle and ride a unicycle) and then headed over to the high school to wait on Devin to finish up with baseball practice. We were sitting in the car in the ball field parking lot with the windows down and sunroof open, the breeze was blowing my hair and Dracen was just ecstatic with excitement over these new skills he was beginning to learn.

He got out of the car to practice juggling, the sky was showing out, the sound of bats on balls echoed though the air, and I just silently thanked God for allowing me to see and appreciate the full beauty of that moment.

I tried desperately (as I've been doing every chance I get over the past couple of weeks but I'm usually driving) to capture some of the magnificence with my iPhone camera. The pictures never quite seem to do it justice but I think they give a pretty good idea.
The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Psalm 19:1

Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies. Psalm 36:5

"There are 3 kinds of magic in our world. The peddling little magician magic like Uncle Andrew in 'The Magicians Nephew' where people mess around with things they don't understand. It's movie magic. Then there is the magic of the evil side of things. The demonic forces. And that's not really magic... it's corruption of what really exists. And then finally there is the magic of the Holy Spirit of God which is the creation and maintenance of the universe. We don't understand it... and we haven't the faintest idea how He does it. But it's real. That's the deep magic." ~Douglas Gresham (stepson of C.S. Lewis)

That's what I'm talking about.
