The Morning Hour

The Listicles topic this week, inspired by Stacy at Mothering Moments, asked us to make a list of things we likely do in one hour of our day.  I'm pretty sure I've mentioned a time or two, or sixty three, here on this blog about how very much a morning person I most definitely am NOT.

Neither are those two boys of mine so you can imagine the fun we have here at my house each and every weekday morning.  It usually goes something like this...

1. 6:15 a.m. Alarm goes off on the blackberry, dark and early. Get up, grab it off the charger before quickly jumping back under the covers and hitting the snooze button.

2. 6:20 a.m. Hit the snooze button as I curse the morning people who insist on starting the school at a quarter past the butt crack of dawn.

3. 6:25 a.m. Smack the sh*t out of the snooze button one last time.

4. 6:30 a.m. Have reached my snooze limit for the day and have no choice but to drag my grumpy, groggy butt outta bed and attempt to wake my two equally groggy, sleeping boys.

5.  6:35 a.m. In the kitchen fumbling with the coffee pot while bumping into things, and beginning to make breakfast which consists of pouring cereal and milk into bowls or nuking a frozen pancake and yelling down the hall to Dracen who has most likely not yet placed his feet on the floor.

6. 6:40 a.m. Head back down the hall in order to physically put Dracen's feet on the floor and force him into getting dressed.

7. 6:45 a.m. Back in the kitchen making Dracen's lunch and yelling down the hall for him to hurry it up already or possibly breaking up a kitchen table fight if both boys have somehow miraculously made it to breakfast by now.

8. 6:55 a.m. Losing my patience at the snail's pace in which they're crawling and/or the fact that Dracen is lying on the air vent in the bathroom floor or in the sunroom petting the dogs.

9. 7:05 a.m.  Most likely yelling cease fire orders over my coffee cup because a fight has broken out over the bathroom sink or the toothpaste or the fact that Dracen is wearing Devin's socks again.

10. 7:10 a.m. to 7:15 a.m. Listening for the horn to blow (I drive the afternoon taxi) as I remind Dracen for the fifteenth time to locate and put on his socks and shoes as I help to locate any other missing items before finally wishing them both a good day as they head out the door and I kick back with the laptop and coffee because Amen, peace and serenity, it's time to blog!

  1. I call it the crack of stupid. And now that I have a junior high kid, I get to drive the carpool two mornings a week at the aforementioned crack of stupid. I am also NOT a morning person! Great list! Thanks for linking up!

  2. Getting my two boys up and out to the bus stop by 7:28 am is a nightmare also! I end up stuffing their feet in their socks and shoes myself, cuz I just can't wait for them to do it. But at 7:29 am...
    Bliss!

  3. I homeschooled my kids so we didn't have to deal with that morning routine. I always joked that the reason we homeschooled was so we wouldn't have to get up early. Definitely NOT a morning person!!!

  4. Hi Diane, thanks for stopping by my blog! Too funny, I hit my snooze button no less than three times every morning! Although, my two youngest are usually awake before it even goes off...lol!

  5. Mornings with school age kids are fun, aren't they? Especially two who like to fight. I feel like I spend a lot of morning yelling at my girls - to get up, to stop fighting, to get dressed, to eat. It's not very peaceful :)

  6. The crack butt of dawn...Lol.
Love how you press snooze 3 times. Thought I was the SNOOZE button queen!

  7. I'm totally laughing at the image of him lying on the air vent. Actually I'm laughing at the whole morning.

    Sorry!

  8. Absolutely love the last sentence: Amen, peace, and serenity, it's time to blog!
However, yeah, you Americans start your days early! My kids don't have to get up until 8:30am. Reading these listicles, I'm all, "What? Who gets up at 6:15am? That's allowed?"

  9. I am absolutely not going to be a morning person when school starts :) Don't you just love the kids doing the most bizarre things when it is most crucial to do something else...

  10. Just count your blessings that you don't have to get up as early as I do. My alarm goes off at 4:55 AM and I start trying to get Abby out of bed at 5:10 AM. Her bus comes at 6:10 AM and school starts at 7:10 AM. How I make it through the day is nothing short of a miracle! I don't do mornings!

  11. Why is it that when kids want to sleep in, at middle school/high school age, their school starts so early, while when their younger at up at dawn, their days start later?
Not looking forward to those day!

  12. I am a huge snooze button person too. I hate it when I hit the wrong thing. Only too late to a realize that I turned the blasted thing off. Ugh.

  13. I'm cracking up! I think we have the same morning routine. My youngest isn't in school yet and sleeps till 9 (because he is a night owl like me), but I have a senior who will graduate this year and I am counting down the last four days of early mornings for me - yay!

  14. Hahahaha!! Sounds like our mornings too!! Why oh why do they have to fight in the mornings?! I always feel so guilty sending them off to school when they've been naughty and I've been impatient.

  15. I can empathize--- I'm not a morning person either! :-)

  17. We have 3 weeks left of school. I'm actually jumping out of bed! Not so much the other 9 months of the year:)

  18. Between the hours of noon and 1pm today, I serviced 463 mailboxes, explained the key system to a new customer, and handled some union stuff for the office.

I couldn't even stop to pee.

Sadly, that is way more hours of my day than I care to mention.

PS. LOVE the new design! Love, love, LOVE.

  19. Ugh, I am NOT a morning person either. I hate early mornings. And it doesn't help that I don't drink coffee.

  20. Or, you could homeschool and do this all day long...

    Little jealous.

  22. We have the same snooze button routine except mine starts at 5:45. I hate mornings. The only upside is I'm normally alone until around 7:30. No trying to talk to people, be coherent.....

  23. LOL I agree! I'm SO NOT a morning person either!
