Five Things

I've been experiencing a severe case of writer's block or blogger's block or whatever.

Maybe because my routine has been seriously disturbed since the boys have been out of school or maybe because I just honestly and truly have not had anything interesting or insightful to say.

You'd think with them being all up in my business that I'd at least be rewarded with some good blog fodder but they've actually been pretty well-behaved for the past few days. Now holding my breath and crossing my fingers that I did not just jinx it all by putting that in print.

So what have I been up to for the past week?

1. I painted our bedroom a lovely shade of teal a.k.a Aqua Smoke on Saturday and I could not be more pleased with it.  And I tried by darndest to post a pic of it but Blogger is being an arse.

2. I had the second half of the second root canal done yesterday and was a little perplexed that the endodontist and his assistant seemed somewhat perturbed that I only took one halcion instead of the one and a half he prescribed.

His assistant said, "Are you going to be okay with us doing the work since you only took the one halcion?"   "Of course", I said.  "I'm perfectly fine."  Then he comes in and says in a semi-joking manner, "You seem really awake..."Why is everyone doing this to me today?"

Am I missing something here?  "I'm not even nervous", I say.  I guess they prefer their patients semi-comatose and mumbling incoherently.  Probably more fun for them that way. Sorry to disappoint!

3. I haven't been able to go to my classes of pilates, yoga and zumba at noon since the boys are home so yesterday evening when they were still at their momaw and popaw's I decided to hit the 6:00 R.I.P.P.E.D class.

Note to self a.k.a Word to the wise:  Probably not the best idea to go to a class called R.I.P.P.E.D for the first time after you've taken a halcion(which is basically a sleeping pill), had a root canal, passed out on the couch for a couple of hours and eaten a Little Debbie Nutty Buddy Bar.

About 10 minutes into the class my side started burning like blue blazes and it was only on pride alone that I managed to survive the entire hour of that tortuous madness.

4. I was told by my eldest that I am not cool enough to drive him, a friend of his, and two girls to a movie or bowling. Good to know.  And where oh where did my little boy go?

5. My heart broke when I found out that my friend Shirley's brain tumor was cancerous and she must now endure chemo.

Cancer sucks.

But God is still good....

Happy Friday!

Baseball on Thursday nights has seriously cut into my Fancy Friday prep. time so sorry to disappoint but there is no fancy in my post today....just me and my ramblings.

I cannot believe I am even still talking about this or that it is even still an issue in my life but that no good, stinkin' root canal I had last month (you know the one that got rescheduled because the endondontist had the flu on the original date?) is still not finished.

I never knew before since I'd never had one but there are several parts to a root canal procedure.  First you go and have your tooth opened up, though it actually sounds more like your skull is being opened up, and they go in and get the infected part out (or something like that...I was drugged so the details are foggy).

The canal is filled with some sort of medicine and yada, yada, yada and then you go back for another appointment at a later date to have that stuff taken out and a temporary filling or crown placed before then going to your regular dentist to fork out another buttload of cash for a permanent crown.

I was supposed to have part two done today but I got a phone call at O seven thirty this morning telling me the doc is sick again and not coming in today.  Say what?!

Look, I'm not usually one for making assumptions or passing suspicion but either that man gets sick an awful lot or he's got some sort of issues I don't know about.  And that's all I'm gonna say about that.

Anyway, I'm now rescheduled for  May 5th.  And of course, I haven't even made an appointment for the second root canal yet.  Sweet Lord, will it ever end?

So, what I should do is go on to pilates with weights today at noon but I think what I'm going to do instead is go shopping for Easter clothes.

I still haven't bought a dress yet and Easter is the one Sunday a year when I crack down on the boys and force them to wear something other than gym shorts and t-shirts to church and smile pretty for a picture in front of the flowering cross.

They love it.  Just like I love the dentist.

I also must go to the Food Lion today since I have stretched it out as far as I possibly can this week and we are now out of milk, juice, bread, yogurt and most importantly, Diet Coke.  Gasp.  I see no way around it.

But, I am so looking forward to tonight when I will get to spend a little time with two of my best girlfriends, Jenn and Michele, for pedicures.   I haven't seen them in what seems like forever and my toes are way overdue for some tlc.  And since flip flop and sandal season is upon us at last, it is high time they got some.

Speaking of sandals, I did manage to bookmark about four or five items last night, all while trying to watch Idol and force Dracen to study his spelling words all at the same time.  One of them was the cutest pair of metallic sandals I have ever cast my eyes upon so I feel I must show them to you....

Aren't they awesome?  It's shoe love, plain and simple.

Y'all have a great weekend!

Weekend Recap

Spring seems to have packed up its bags and headed straight outta town without so much as a note, a kiss goodbye or a forwarding address.  How rude.

The rain and cold temps. did not, however, stop Brisco "Big Boy" Darling the wiener dog from going outside and slinging red mud all over the backyard yesterday afternoon, forcing us to bathe him twice.  And even after I made him look me in the eye when I demanded, "DON'T DIG."  in my best Darth Vader voice.  I guess I wasn't scary enough.

Speaking of scary, I finally had the first of the two root canals on Friday and maybe it was due to the anti-anxiety medicine they gave me to take before my appointment, but (and I can't believe I'm saying this) it was not that bad.  Really.

The sound of him opening up the tooth with that drill was a little intimidating but after that, I was kicked back and relaxed in my sexy red-tinted shades they put on me, and found it amusing when his assistant told me that she'd give my husband the same instructions she was giving me just in case I couldn't remember.

Come again?  Why would I not remember? Apparently, it happens a lot with patients under the influence of the anti-anxiety medication they gave me, Halcion.  I remember everything.  From the first shot (that managed to numb the entire left side of my face, including my eye) to the paying of the big fat bill at the end, which was actually the worst part of the whole experience.

I asked Charlie to stop at Sonic on the way home for a shake and he at first thought I was kidding since I've been on this calorie-counting kick for the past week but I was so not kidding.  I couldn't eat and I figured I deserved a little treat since I was such a big girl at my appointment and all.

I got home and went straight to the laptop to look up how many calories are in a regular sized hot fudge shake from Sonic.  Do you have any idea?  Care to guess?  SIX HUNDRED AND EIGHT!  6.0.8. calories in one little shake.

I gasped, slammed the laptop shut and slept for the next 3 hours.  Devin creeped into the sunroom where I was awake but still lying down when he got off the bus and asked if I was knocked out.  I had warned them that I may be since I'd never taken this drug before and didn't want them to be freaked out to come home and see me in a semi-comatose state.

He seemed relieved that I was indeed awake and wanted to make sure I remembered that he had cleaned his room the day before so that he could have a friend sleep over.  I assured him that I remembered though looking back on it, I should have faked amnesia and messed with him a little bit.  Gah, I always get the best ideas way after the fact.

Saturday afternoon Charlie and I had a movie date.  We saw Limitless  which was very entertaining, although I could have done without the violent parts and the young couple in the back of the theater who could not seem to control their chatter, giggling, endless trips to the bathroom/concession stand and the dropping of some sort of candy all over the floor, which they found absolutely hysterical.

I looked back to shoot them my evil eye when at the same time Charlie turned around and asked them, (though it didn't really sound so much like a question) in his best Darth Vader voice, to be quiet. And they obliged. We didn't hear so much as a peep out of them after that.

Maybe next time I should ask him to give the "don't dig in the mud" speech to that stubborn little wiener dog.

Fancy Friday...Spring Trends

I know this is something like the fifth Friday in a row here that I've begun by talking about a root canal.  A root canal that I was supposed to have yesterday morning.  Only guess what?  That hex I put on the endodontist must have worked because he came down with the flu.

Kidding, of course. About the hex, not the flu.  I am now rescheduled for next Friday.  I guess the little luck bestowing leprechaun thought I shouldn't be getting a root canal on St. Patrick's Day.  Apparently though, he didn't stop by the endodontist's house.  He must not have planned to wear his green.

And speaking of the wearing o' the green... (And yes, yes I did just make another cheesy attempt at a smooth transition from root canal to fashion...no easy task my friends...no easy task)

Emerald City Lights Necklace
According to InStyle, one of the top Spring trends is a statement necklace and this one from Ruche is certainly bold enough to make a statement.

Crochet, lace, and macrame items are also hot right now.  I love the following two lacy tops at Piperlime...

Embroidered Sleeve Top

Line and Dot Eyelet Top
I think this one is my favorite. So fancy and feminine.

How about this for adding a little lace to your wardrobe?  $19.80 at Forever 21.  Can't beat that.

Floral prints are another little fancy popping up all over Spring this year.  And I think I am in love with these hotties...

Come to Mama!

 Kimono Sleeve Floral Print Cowlneck
I spotted this sexy floral top at Macy's but unfortunately, it seems to currently be available in petite sizes only.  So, if you're a tiny little thing, here ya go!  On sale for $31.50

If you prefer your floral print to be a little more subtle then this soft and delicate wrap dress with dainty pink roses, lavendar flowers and tiny polka dots from ModCloth is perfect.  I love the ivory lace detail.  It wraps all the way across the back of the shoulders.   Lovely.

Seventies-inspired fashion is also back in a big way and I think every female alive in the 70's, no matter what age, had herself a funky pair of wedges or chunky heels.  I remember the first pair I ever saw.  I couldn't have been more than 4 years old but I knew I had to have me some of that action.  Come to think of it, I believe that was about the time my love for shoes was born.

Here are just a couple I'm diggin' right now.

These also come in natural.  Chic Chickie!

Shake your groove thang!

Bangle bracelets also seem to be making a big comeback.

Golden Opportunities Bangle Set
I found these at Francesca's.  Groovy.

Floral Arrangement Bangle
Or how about this one?  Perfect little "cherry on top" accessory for that 70's chic look. My inner flower child is practically doing cartwheels over this bracelet.

Stripes are another popular trend right now.  I'm seen them on everything from shoes to scarves to dresses.  I realize some stripe patterns can be a little intimidating to try because who wants to be appear wider?  But, if worn right, I really think just about anyone can wear them.

These long flowing maxi dresses are really hot right now too. I think the pattern on this one is a great example of how to wear stripes in a flattering way. You could do so much with it too. A shirt, jacket or cardigan over the top... a shirt underneath...or in the summer, just as it is.  I think it would look awesome with some of those funky 70's inspired wedges. Also comes in red.

If you still aren't sold on the idea of wearing stripes all over, how about a striped scarf like this one.  $12.50 and comes in 3 colors.

Or how about a pair of striped flats or espadrilles?

French Sole Yacht

Also in blue.
Diba Dance With Me Wedge

Also in blue and 6 solid colors...

And since we began with a statement necklace, why not end with one as well?

Royalty Collar Necklace
So boho!  $8.80 at Forever 21

And that's all I've got for today.

Happy Friday, Y'all!

Fancy Friday...$30 and under

I've been a little slack on the blog posts this week but I think I've been experiencing a bit of writer's block, or should I say blogger's block?

Either way, I've had it.

It seems every time I try to write a post, it becomes all about my dental woes again which I could go on and on about because I went back to my regular dentist Tuesday and let me just tell you, my mouth is still sore and as much as the truth hurts (pun intended), I do indeed need two root canals, one of which I will have next Thursday.

Fun times.

Actually, from what I've read about the drug he is prescribing, that may not be too far from the truth.

Apparently, I may not even remember being there and I'm not sure if that's a good or a bad thing because number one, I may make a complete and utter fool of myself and will still have to go back and show my face for root canal number two at a later date and number two, how the heck am I supposed to blog all about the hilariousness of myself under the influence of this drug if I can't remember anything?

Why my teeth have suddenly become so high maintenace is beyond me.  I floss, brush, wear that ridiculous night guard that makes me look like Bugs Bunny every night to bed so that I don't grind them, and have them professionally cleaned every six months.

What more do they want?!

Oh, I know...

A couple of root canals worth a grand each!

And that is why this edition of Fancy Friday will contain nothing over 30 dollars...

First up are these adorable little red cork wedges from Target  for 24.99.  Oh, how I love me some Target.

Kylie Jacket
I never really thought of myself as an orange jacket kind of person but this boyfriend jacket that Sundance Catalog calls 'paprika' is working on changing my mind.  Regular price: $128.  Sale price: $29.99!   If orange still isn't your thing though, it also comes in lilac and a pretty oyster color.

Flower thong slide
I spotted these darling little things at NY & Co. for $19.95.  In addition to 'delightful pink', they also come in 5 other delightful colors, including gold, silver and lilac...

I also found this sweet little flower there for $10.95.  You could pin this to a caridgan, jacket ,or purse...or even wear it in your hair.  Love it!  Oh, and it comes in 4 feminine colors but this one, 'sunflower garden', is my favorite.

I'm loving these scarf print totes at Old Navy...$19.50.  I came very close to buying one in there a couple of weeks ago.  Casual and fancy, all wrapped in one little tote.  What's not to love?  They come in 5 different prints.

Raffia belt
You can really find some great deals at Coldwater Creek's online outlet, like this colorful, woven rafia belt.  Was: $39.95 Now: $19.95   So Springy!

Bead detail knit top

I also spotted this embellished v-neck top there marked down to $29.99.  Love this rich shade of brown.  I'd pair it with a colorful cardigan/jacket or maybe some turquoise jewelry.

Ruffle Scoop Neck Tee
This soft little cotton tee with the ruffled scooped neckline is on sale for $20 at the Loft and comes in 10 different colors.  I know this is a tiny photo but you can see it better by clicking on the link.  The Loft is very stingy with their photos.

Smocked Silk Skirt
I found this at Sundance's online outlet.  Originally priced at $118. Marked down to $29.99. Sweet!

Chenin grape scarf
I've been drooling over this scarf at Ruche for weeks now.  It also comes in gray and is only $22.99.  So unique.

Women's Pintucked Lace-Trim Tank Dresses

You can't beat this Old Navy dress for $29.50.  You could dress it up with a cardigan, scarf, jewelry...or just wear it with a pair of flip flops in the summer for a casual look. 2 color choices.

The Heritage Boatneck Sailor Tee
Love, love, love this cheerful yellow sailor tee with three-quarter sleeves from Land's End Canvas.  It also comes in gray and two navy/ivory combinations. Perfect for Spring!  $29.50.

Allure of peacock necklace
Because, who doesn't need a peacock necklace?  Gorgeous.  $11.99

And that concludes this special bargain edition of Fancy Friday.  Whew! That was way more challenging than I had anticipated.

Y'all have a great weekend!
