Wednesday Hodgepodge

Today I have decided to forgo Wiener Wednesday and participate in the weekly Hodgepodge Questions by Joyce at From This Side of the Pond. For those of you who look forward to hearing from the Darlings each week though, don't worry. They will continue to get their equal time here on this blog. ;)

1. What are your plans for Easter? Are you cooking a big lunch or dinner?  Dyeing eggs? Attending a sun rise service?  Eating too much chocolate?

We will go to church and this year we are going to my mom's house for lunch which reminds me, I need to find out what I need to make! We always dye eggs though Devin hasn't been very interested in the process for the past couple of years...It's just been Dracen and me. Sunrise service? Never have made it to one. I try to avoid anything that requires me to get up before the butt crack of dawn though I'm always saying I'm going to make it to of these days. I will try really hard not to eat too much chocolate but it is one of my greatest weaknesses.

2.  What is something you feel too young to do?
Hmm...Be a grandmother?  Probably because my oldest is only 13, but my mother became one when she was the age I am now...42 next month. Wow. Hard for me to fathom!

3.  "Love is patient, love is kind.  It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs..."

Of the characteristics mentioned in the biblical definition of love which do you find most difficult to live out and why?

Whew. Although that is one of my favorite verses, it is certainly not always easy to abide by. I used to be a big grudge-holder though I think I've gotten much better about that as time has marched on.

4. What's a springtime flower you associate with your childhood?

Hydrangeas always remind me of my childhood babysitter, Mrs. White. She kept me from the time I was an infant until about the second grade. She was like a grandmother to me and I kept in touch with her for years, even after we moved out of state. She had two big Hydrangea bushes on each side of her front porch steps. She referred to them as "snowball bushes". I was an adult before I learned their proper name. I planted three in my backyard last summer.

5.  Ever sung karaoke? If so, what's your go-to song? If not and you're given the opportunity, would you?

Yes, a couple of times. Both times I was a little "tipsy" and I had at least one girlfriend on the stage with me. It's probably been close to 20 years since the last time and I plan to keep it that way! Now I just sing alone in the car. Badly.

6. What is something you keep in a basket?

I have baskets all over the house. A couple have magazines/books in them, a couple more have doggie clothes/toys in them, one in the kitchen has vegetables/fruits in it and then of course, there are the many clothes baskets and the dreaded mismatched sock basket.

7.  When was the last time you felt foolish?

I've definitely felt my fair share of foolish but the most recent time in which I felt extra foolish was that morning (a few months back) in the middle school drop-off line when I looked down, allowed my foot to come off the brake and rolled right into the car in front of me which, by the way, was a brand new car. Thank the good Lord there was no damage but still...

You can read that full story here if you feel obliged.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

I think I may have a pinched nerve in my back. I got up for a coffee refill a couple of questions back and it just hit me. I nearly went to my knees. I'm now having to sit straight up in a kitchen chair and it hurts to move. What in the world? Probably from carrying Dracen (who is 9 and a half) to bed two or three different times this week since he's been sick. I took four ibuprofen and I'm about to try some yoga moves. Also, I'd like to add to my answer for number 2...I feel much too young to be down with a bad back!

Gah. This too shall pass...right?

  1. Welcome to the Wednesday Hodgepodge!

My aching back, my eyes, and getting up after I've been sitting on the floor all make me realize I'm not as young as I like to think. Still I'm young: )

We used to call hydrangeas snowballs too! My girls are 24 and 22 but they still like to dye eggs. Secretly so do I : ) Hey-you're never too old, right?

    Happy Easter!

  2. First, thanks for stopping by my blog! Yes, I am a fierce dackel lover! I met my first wire-haired dackel back in the early 1990's. Got my first one in 1994 and had them ever since. The best dogs ever!
I became a grandma last May, and it is just the best thing ever!!!

  3. I have a Devin too. He is my oldest:) He will be 24 on his next birthday!

When I became a grandmother four years ago I remember thing the very same thing. But I am a bit older so I have eased into it. I cherish the time I spend with her more and more every day!

  4. I knew you were gonna write about the car line Incident!

My back has been killing me for 2 says. I think it's because I haven't worked out in a week:(. Spring break does not lend time for that. However, it did lend time to see Oz the great and powerful. We all liked it!

  5. Look up stretches on YouTube for pinched nerves in your back... its what has helped me!!! & I got an inversion table to help with a bulging disc. & YES - these answers also go back to "I'm too young for this" ;)

  6. Have a wonderful Easter! I'll be driving back home from an out of town wedding and this will be the first time in a long time I've missed church.

I became a grandmother young, but then I had my first child very young. Best thing ever is being a grandmother.

But sorry about the back thing! You are way too young for that. Hope it gets better quickly!

  7. Thanks for stopping by, so enjoyed your answers too. Oh, I feel for you and your back. I see a Chiropractor to keep my in alignment. I've had some awful pain with mine over the years. Not fun! Happy Easter to you and yours!

  8. Welcome to your first Hodgepodge participation! Well done. I got a chuckle out of your "foolish" answer; I know it probably was anything BUT funny at the time. I can relate to the bad back, forgot about the mismatched sock basket (I got rid of 60--counted 'em--60 socks last week--JOY!). And I was just telling my mom last night that I feel too young to be old enough for a grandchild, but I'm 47 and she was 44, and my married son is 25, so the calendar doesn't give a hoot to my feelings!

  9. I still love dyeing eggs especially with my niece & nephew here. Hope you have a great Easter!! :)

  10. LOL. I have a "snowball" bush in my back yard. That is until the dog runs through my flower bed and I can be heard yelling at the dog to get out of the flowers. (back to the lack of patience again).

Anyhow, I hope you are feeling better soon. Wishing you a wonderful Easter Holiday.

  11. I hate how these things happen to us now that we're older. All the stuff we did as kids or even 20 year olds never hurt back then!

I think tipsy and karaoke go hand in hand. :)

  12. Thanks so much for joining the Hodgepodge with us, and for stopping by my blog! I hope you'll join in the fun again, soon :)

I have always liked hydrangeas, too, but, so far, I haven't had much luck growing them.

  13. I hope your neck gets better soon. Happy Easter!

  14. So glad everyone's feeling better. :) We keep shoes in baskets around here... and our eggs are plastic. Although we will be doing the night hunt, complete with glowing eggs on Saturday night.... which leaves plenty of time for sleeping in on Sunday!

  15. I love hydrangeas! And karaoke, too.
I have chronic back pain so I feel for you. =(
    Have a lovely Easter!

  16. Ice ice ice ice for 24 to 48 hours and motrin...then the next few days heat. Take it from me, I'm a pro at broken back pieces.

  17. Morning, Diane! Just wanted to pop over real quick and wish you and yours a BLESSED Easter! My oldest daughter is coming home from college much to do, but I can't wait! :)

  18. Just kidding, of course, but being a grandmother and pinched nerves in the back...well, you're on your way. LOLOL [I couldn't resist]

  19. We also dye eggs. My kids love it. Have a wonderful Easter!

  20. Gosh I hope your back is okay. And I save things in my baskets too. I find it harder to forget then forgive. You are too young to be a grandma - you are so pretty!!!!!!!!!!!!! Have fun at your mother's for Easter with your family. sandie

  21. Get yourself a massage! I have a nerve/muscle that tweaks every so often... it's a leftover from co-sleeping with The Girl in the crook of my arm. A 30-60 min massage usually solves the problem for months or so!

Hope you had a good Easter.

  22. We're almost the same age (I'm a few months older than you) 7 I woke up to horrible back pain this morning..could barely put on my shoes and it took forever! Even though I feel old I don't feel old enough to by a Grandma either.
