Cock a doodle doo, I'm up before you!

For some strange reason, beyond my comprehension, Devin decided a couple of weeks ago that he wanted to start getting up earlier than I was waking him up.

I have not ever, ever been a morning person.  Not even a teeny, tiny little bit.  I wake up feeling like I haven't slept a wink, every single morning, no matter how long I slept.

It's just who I am.  I'm okay after a couple of hours and a pot of coffee a few minutes but it's really best not to ask too much of me first thing in the early morning.

Dracen is pretty much just like me.  Morning Bear! Or at least when I wake him up he is.  Devin somehow outgrew his a.m. grumpiness a few years ago but I would not have called him a morning person, which is why I was a little confused when he decided he needs to get up earlier so he can get ready, sit on the couch and get on the computer or watch t.v. before school.

I gave him my alarm clock since I use my blackberry as an alarm now and for a few mornings last week, I got up to find he was up, already eaten, dressed and kicked back on the couch with the laptop.

After that nasty springing forward conspiracy thing this past weekend though, he pulled a me and unplugged the ol' alarm clock when it went off at 6:30 dark and early yesterday morning.

Dracen was beside himself with fury on the mornings Devin got up early, simply because he felt he was missing out on something big, bad and super important like sitting on the couch watching George Lopez at 7 o'clock in the morning.

So...I was a little relieved that Devin was over the getting up before the roosters phase so that I didn't have to deal with the extreme whining of the Dracenator in my state of early morning stupor.

Well, imagine my surprise when I stumbled out of bed at dark thirty this morning to find both boys dressed and sitting on the couch.  I mumbled  "What tha? Why is this bright light on?!"  and then, "Ummm....Dracen, what do you want for breakfast?"  to which he replied "I already ate. I had an oatmeal bar."

"Great. Here are the keys.  I'm going back to bed now because clearly, my services are no longer needed here."

He had somehow, unbeknownst to me, managed to convince his brother to wake him up at half past the rooster's crow too.   What am I missing here?

As it turns out though, my services were still very much needed since I saw that both boys were trying to wear shorts when the high is only supposed to be 50 today and that Dracen had no inkling as to the whereabouts of his shoes when 7:30 rolled around.

What would they do without me?

Clearly NOT sleep in.

Crazy kids!

  1. Dark thirty!! Love it! This is how my Sarah is -- makes no sense to me. She wakes up with a smile, eyes bright and literally jumps out of bed. Although she does beg to wear her jammies all day. I love that they both dressed in shorts -- is that a boy thing? John does that all the time. Do they not have feeling in thier legs? Drink some more coffee and have a great day!

  2. Hehe. My Dad used to call it 'o dark thirty. You don't have a navy background do you? :-)

One day they'll sleep so much and so long that you'll worry. In the meantime, get a cappuccino machine. Coffee has nothing over a shot of espresso! Thanks for stopping by on my SITS day!

    Cheers!

  4. It just pained me to hear about that bright light being on when you came out. I need darkness for quite a while after I get up.

    Those boys...

  5. I think I would be okay with it if they would leave me alone. Unfortunately, my early rising 11 year old comes in everyday at 6am and wants to aske me a question or pester me or simply roll his eyes at me for no good reason at all.
    Sigh......

  6. I hate mornings! My life was moving along smoothly hating mornings until about 3 years ago. I would sleep until 8 with my kids and get them to preschool 9ish.

When we started our new job, we had to have 6 kids ready and to school by 7:50. That first year, I didn't speak to them in the morning because if I did it was not pretty. Thankfully, my body has slooooowly gotten a little more acclimated to 6:15. And, now it's getting 9 kids ready and to school by 7:50.
