10 Memorable Movie Quotes

I got happy when I saw Stasha's Listicles topic for this week, suggested by Ally at Just a Normal Mom10 Best Movie Quotes. And then I got overwhelmed because there are just.so.many. memorable ones.  I thought of focusing on just one movie, like Steel Magnolias,  Forrest Gump, or Sleepless in Seattle because I am reminded of quotes from all those movies pretty much on a daily basis but there are so many other great ones I didn't want to exclude and I know I'm going to leave a ton out but here I will attempt to narrow it down to just ten...

1. Steel Magnolias, Clairee (Olympia Dukakis): "The only thing that separates us from the animals is our ability to accessorize."

2. Sleepless in Seattle, Sam Baldwin (Tom Hanks), when asked what was so special about his late wife: "Well, it was a million tiny little things that, when you added them all up, they meant we were supposed to be together...and I knew it.  I knew it the very first time I touched her...I was just taking her hand to help her out of a car and I knew. It was like...magic."

3. When Harry Met Sally, Older Woman in Deli (Estelle Reiner) after she'd just witnessed Sally (Meg Ryan) fake it at the table to prove a point to Harry (Billy Crystal): "I'll have what she's having."

By the way, did you know that she is Rob Reiner's mother and still alive today, at 94?

4. Forrest Gump, Forrest (Tom Hanks) to Lieutenant Dan (Gary Sinise) after his shrimp boat crashes into the docks in the distance: "That's my boat."

BwaHaHaa... I love me some Forrest Gump.

5. Christmas Vacation, Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) : "Where do you think you're going?  Nobody's leaving.  Nobody's walking out on this fun, old-fashioned family Christmas. No, no.  We're all in this together. This is a full-blown, four-alarm holiday emergency here. We're gonna press on, and we're gonna have the hap, hap, happiest Christmas since Bing Crosby tap-danced with Danny f***ing Kaye.  And when Santa squeezes his fat white ass down that chimney tonight, he's gonna find the jolliest bunch of a**holes this side of the nuthouse!"

I watch it every December and it never gets old.

6. Say Anything, Lloyd Dobler (John Cusack): "I don't want to sell anything, buy anything, or process anything as a career.  I don't want to sell anything bought or processed, or buy anything sold or processed, or process anything sold, bought or processed, or repair anything sold, bought or processed. You know, as a career, I don't want to do that."

Gotta love Lloyd!

7. The Notebook, Duke aka Noah (James Garner) : "I am nothing special, of this I am sure. I am a common man with common thoughts and I've led a common life.  There are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will soon be forgotten, but I've loved another with all my heart and soul, and to me, this has always been enough."

Sigh...

8. A League of Their Own, Jimmy Dugan (Tom Hanks...Can you tell I'm a fan?):  "Are you crying?  Are you crying? ARE YOU CRYING? There's no crying! THERE'S NO CRYING IN BASEBALL!"

9. Inglourious Basterds, Lt. Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt): "You probably heard we ain't in the prisoner-takin' business; we in the killin' Nazi business.  And cousin, business is a boomin'. "

I think this is my favorite Brad Pitt role.  This speech he gave in his first scene is absolutely priceless...

10. Steel Magnolias, Shelby (Julia Roberts): "Mama, I don't know why you have to make everything so difficult...you get through it and life goes on... I would rather have thirty minutes of wonderful than a lifetime of nothing special."

And wouldn't we all?

  1. Love these. I see we have similar tastes in movies. But my favorite all time is... "Life is pain princess, anyone who tells you differently is trying to sell you something."

    1. I had to cheat! I know so many people who LOVE that movie and honestly, I'm not even sure I've ever seen it all the way through and if I have, it's been so many years I can't remember it much. I need to watch that again.

    2. I actually don't even know now if it's in the movie.... it may have just been in the book. I think the appeal for me was the cast of actors. So much talent in two hours. :) My other favorite from the movie is "I'm not a witch! I'm your wife!" :)
