Fancy Friday...Bringing back the Easter Hat

I have a hat. It is graceful and feminine and gives me a certain dignity, as if I were attending a state funeral or something. Someday I may get up enough courage to wear it, instead of carrying it.  ~Erma Bombeck

It's Fancy Friday time again!  I've always liked hats though I can't recall them being in high fashion since...well, I was born, but I love the idea of a fancy Easter hat so that's the focus for today.

I'm quite sure that if I were to show up at church Sunday sporting one of these fabulous hats, however, that I would be greeted as if I had three heads.  I still love them though and I'm patiently waiting for them to come back around.

It was no easy task finding them but here's what I was able to dig up...

"Wearing a hat is like having a baby or a puppy; everyone stops to coo and talk about it." (Louise Green)

"A hat is a flag, a shield, a bit of armor, and the badge of femininity. A hat is the difference between wearing clothes and wearing a costume; it's the difference between being dressed and being dressed up; it's the difference between looking adequate and looking your best. A hat is to be stylish in, to glow under, to flirt beneath, to make all others seem jealous over, and to make all men feel masculine about. A piece of magic is a hat." (Martha Sliter)

"Fashion is a kind of communication. It's a language without words. A great hat speaks for itself."

"Saying you don't look good in a hat is like saying you don't look good in shoes!"

There's just something special about a woman in a hat. (Betmar Philosophy)

With the right hat, nothing else matters. (LaPaloma Hats)

A hat is a shameless flatterer, calling attention to an escaping curl, a tawny braid, a sprinkling of freckles over a pert nose, directing the eye to what is most unique about a face. Its curves emphasize a shining pair of eyes, a lofty forehead; its deep brim accentuates the pale tint of a cheek, creates an aura of prettiness, suggests a mystery that awakens curiosity in the onlooker. (Jeanine Larmoth)

"When you wear a hat, it is like medicine for the soul. The hat is the expression of who you are as a women in every moment! The hat is your dreams of who you can be. It facilitates the different parts of who you are: With the wave of the hat, voila! You are mysterious...no, you are sexy...now proper...now playful".

"Few women have ever been able to resist the temptation to try on a hat and discover in the mirror a person they never suspected was there. A hat alters the image we have of ourselves, and the image others see as well. For the hours we wear it, it brings out different dimension in our personality, much as a costume aids an actress in her role."

"The right hat may also enliven our imagination of the past....an old-fashioned cloche, a picture hat, or a toque trimmed with a pouf of polka-dotted veiling is just enough to make us feel as if we were living in another, romantic age."

For those of you who enjoy craft projects, I found these little instructions on making your very own little easter bonnet out of a paper plate and construction paper.  Y'all have fun with that...I know you'll jump right on it.

I hope you all have a wonderful Easter weekend as we celebrate the most joyous of all Christian holidays!  Christ is risen!

Mark 16:1-7

When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus' body. Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb and they asked each other, "Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?"

But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away. As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed.

"Don't be alarmed," he said. "You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter, 'He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.' "

  1. I bought a wide brimmed straw hat last night for my trip to Guatemala next weekend. Does that count?

J's class made home made Easter Bonnet's from paper plates. They were beautiful!

Sometimes in the hustle and bustle it's hard to slow down to really ponder "why are we doing this"? I told one of my friends that I felt like the Grinch of Easter because I really don't care about all this silly stuff. It's about Christ's ultimate sacrifice on the cross. His resurrection gives us life.

  2. I didn't know you were going to Guatemala. I have some cool sun hats. One is a big floppy one and I love wearing that thing!

I think the bunnies and eggs and baskets are fun and cute but you are right, it is without a doubt about the ultimate sacrifice He made for all of us.
