April Fools

The first of April is the day we remember what we are the other 364 days of the year."
~Mark Twain

To say that my boys, Dev and the Dracenator , have sibling rivalry issues would be the greatest understatement of the 20th and 21st centuries combined.  Those two each spend about three quarters of their days monitoring the other's every move, foul and whereabouts.

If we forget who has lost what privilege at any given time, you can bet the other can tell us not only what privilege his brother is currently suspended from but can most likely give us a precise, detailed description, not excluding date and time, of the behavioral incident that warranted such a revocation.

As God as my witness, I have actually heard those two bickering over which one would "get to" do the toilet when I told them to clean the bathroom.

I'm dead serious.

Dev has recently gained just enough wisdom in his 10 and a half years to throw a little reverse psychology at the Dracenator on occasion in order to get his way.  The problem with this is, once he has scored his desired goal, he blows it by gloating like a peacock which then sets off a flaming rage of revengeful fury in his little bro.

In other words, he pitches a hissy fit which leads to a colorful assortment of insults, crocodile tears and the throwing of punches and inanimate objects. It's a vicious cycle. Those of you who don't have the overflowing of brotherly love in your home just don't have a clue what you're missing.

I know you're jealous.

I got a little mama revenge on one of them this afternoon though.  That's right, Mama had a little April Fools Day fun...

I went to the school at noon to help out with the Dracenator's Easter egg hunt and party and checked him out about 45 minutes early since his school day was done afterwards.

I didn't have his little brother with me when I picked Dev up and of course he immediately wanted to know where he was.  I had been conjuring up my little scheme on the short little drive to the school.

Devin:  Where's Dracen?

Me:  Don't be mad.

Devin:  What?  Where IS he?

Me:  Well...Momaw and Popaw decided to go to the beach today and I thought 5th grade was still having testing today so I didn't want to get you out early and they wanted to get on the road.

Devin:  But we were DONE with testing!  Who all went?!

Me:  Ummm....I don't really know for sure but I believe Sam (cousin) was going and I think they were going to try to get Kara(other cousin) out of school but not sure if they did or not.

Devin:  But THAT'S NOT FAIR!

Me:  APRIL FOOLS!!!!  Ba Ha Ha Haaaa!!!!
Now, I must set my sights on getting the little one... I know.  I'll tell him his brother is getting a flat screen for his new room or that iCarly is going off the air (Don't I wish?)  He Heee!

The first of April, some do say
Is set apart for All Fool's Day;
But why the people call it so
Nor I, nor they themselves, do know,
But on this day are people sent
On purpose for pure merriment.
Poor Robin's Almanac (1790)

Small April sobbed, I'm going to cry
Please give me a cloud to wipe my eye;
Then April Fool, she laughed instead
And smiled a rainbow overhead.

  1. Way to go, Mom! I know you have the overabundance of testosterone at your house, but the estrogen over here, seems to provide for the same competitive edge. I don't think this is the part we'll miss when they're grown :)
