A Road Trip

Sometimes you just have to throw caution to the wind and hit the road.  And that's exactly what we did Sunday.  We loaded up yesterday morning and headed up the mountain.

Although most of the leaves up there have already fallen from the trees, the views from the Blueridge Parkway are still breathtaking.

Brisco Darling was our navigator...

The Dracenator was granted full rights and privileges to my old Canon Power Shot and aside from the shots of the backs of the truck seats and the ones of asphalt, I think he did a pretty good job for a 7 year old...

And he and his brother were remarkably well-behaved all day, with little to no insulting remarks or punches thrown.

The good citizenship award of the day went to Charlie for his volunteer work in making the parkway beautiful.  How people live with themselves after trashing God's handiwork with their litter is beyond me.

The best modeling award went to the Dracenator for his work inside this big hollowed out tree...

While the Best Sport award went to Dev for his participation in the photo session, period.  This is huge for him considering he normally covers his face and runs when he sees the camera.

It was a fun-filled day for all and included lunch at the Daniel Boone Inn in Boone and a trip to the historic original Mast General Store in Valle Crucis, built in 1883.

But we knew it was time to head back down the mountain when our navigator and his assistant turned in their compass for some Zzz's.

And I may or may not have joined them...

  4. Dra looks so much like his daddy! I never noticed how much, until the picture at the tree. Of course, there's no denying Dev is yours!
