Shh...Listen

"Be still a minute!" I've been saying that to the youngest of my two sons since he was in the womb and have yet to get the desired response. He's 6 and a half now.

When I was trying to think of a title for my new blog I tried to be still a minute and let my creative juices flow. I had big ideas of some fun, witty title that would inspire and motivate only to find myself settling on...well, Be Still a Minute, which reminded me of one of my favorite Bible verses, Be still and know that I am God (Psalm 46:10).

This told me that I must surely be on the right track. I've found that during the most difficult times of my life, prayer and writing have given me the most comfort and strength.

When I was widowed a little over 6 years ago, I began writing poetry to get me through the grief. I could feel God at work through me, giving me the words that led to my eventual healing and spiritual growth. I have since found it very difficult to write a poem with the exception of one I wrote when my beloved dog of 14 years passed away last Fall.

The poetry only seems to flow for me during very emotional or difficult times yet I still feel a strong desire to write something...anything; hence my desire to blog! My hope is to not only satisfy my hunger to write but to maybe, just maybe, learn something in the process or even, God willing, inspire another in some small way.

I love a timeless, inspirational quote so today I will end with one I am counting on as I begin my journey in blogging....

We need to find God and he cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence. See how nature - trees, flowers, grass - grows in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence.... We need silence to be able to touch souls. ~Mother Teresa
