The snow is finally on its way out and the boys are back in school which means I have my quiet time back and freedom to go to the gym today. And I assure you pilates will not be kind to me after another week off.
I was beyond relieved to break my cabin fever by going to eat at the local seafood restaurant Friday night to celebrate Momaw Pat's and Popaw Bob's birthdays that were both last week.
Saturday morning I dropped the boys off at the skating rink for a birthday party and headed to Old Navy where I was mostly unsuccessful at scoring any pants to fit me right. It's always a shock to the system to put on a pair of jeans after lounging around the house in sweats and pajama pants for a solid week.
What.a.buzz.kill.
Those cookies and cream Pop-tarts the boys forced me to buy at the grocery store and the snow cream they forced me to make suddenly seemed like very bad judgement calls.
After my Old Navy run, we went back over to my old house that my niece and her family are going to rent come the end of the month, to finish up cleaning out the basement that never ends. Seriously, it.never.ends. because we still are NOT done!
It is absolutely amazing to me how much useless and nonsense stuff manages to pile up on us over the years. Keep? trash? or Salvation Army? There must have been a hundred and fifty two vhs tapes. What do you do with those things? I finally decided that unless it was a home video or unmarked, it was being donated and will probably wind up in a pile of cat hair at some hoarder's house somewhere.
I came across one of our battery operated water bottle spray fans we bought at Disney the summer before last. I held it up to Charlie and he said. "Oh, it's the water bottle we paid something like 50 dollars for at Disney"!
He suddenly started to feel like a hoarder himself because he was actually tempted to keep it and this man has not one ounce of hoarder in his blood. There's something about the wonderful world of Disney that hypnotizes us, bathes us in temporary insanity and makes us hand over every cent in our pockets with a smile on our faces.
I don't know how it works but I know you know what I'm talking about.
The magic of Disney was not, however, working on me Saturday because I normally the sentimental sappy one was not going to be held prisoner by a plastic water bottle any longer, even if it did cost more than the price of feeding the entire population of a small country for a week.
We came home with a plastic tote marked "Devin- Baby and Preschool", my lavender luggage set I thought was a good purchase at the time and my dusty, old, underused treadmill that is now taking up way too much room in the garage. I kept thinking, though, how handy and convenient it will be the next time I'm snowed in for a week and can't go to the gym.
Oh, we're snowed in. I think I'll go out here to the garage and run a few miles on my treadmill!
It could happen. It could!
Well, the one week back to our normal routine was kinda nice while it lasted. Now there is snow in the South again which means no school. And judging by the forecast, this stuff is gonna stay on the ground for a few days.
And I didn't leave the house all weekend long because I was head deep in housework and paint so I now fear that there will be cabin fever in my very near future since I now can't leave the house.
I painted the dining room a lovely warm shade of gold that I am absolutely in love with. It is the exact color I was shooting for a few years back in the hallway at my old house that instead appeared to have a very nauseating orange hue once it was on the walls.
The Dracenator was a toddler when I painted it and apparently did not find it appealing either because a couple of weeks after I painted it, he took a black Sharpie to it. It stayed that way for about 3 years before I finally repainted it.
When he was in kindergarten a couple of years ago, his teacher informed me that hairspray will take Sharpie marks off and to my surprise, it does work most of the time. Thank God we have outgrown the marking on walls and furniture phases around here.
We have not, however, outgrown the stage of running our dirty, grubby little monkey paws down every wall we pass which is why I must now paint the hallway here. Oh, I was planning on painting it anyway because it and the foyer are still the pale yellow that covered a big majority of the walls in this house.
Not a nauseating color but not my taste either. I have the paint but whether I will embark on another painting adventure today or not remains to be determined. But if I was a betting woman, I would go with no since it is now after 11 and I have yet to run a comb through my hair.
Something about snow on the ground and still falling from the sky gives me a sense of entitled laziness which is why I must go enjoy it while it lasts. I give it about 3 more hours before the cabin fever kicks in...
Well, I think my Christmas celebrations are finally over. And my pants are way tighter than they were this time last week. Christmas seems to have this odd way of doing that.
Or maybe it has something to do with the honey ham, red velvet cake, cheesecake and pecan pie I've been eating for the past week. Ya think?
Today officially begins my "cutting back" diet. I don't really like the word "diet" or saying that I'm on one because it just messes with my head and makes me want to eat everything that's not nailed down but for lack of a better word, there it is.
My diet plan is to cut back on calories and desserts when my pants start to feel like they are trying to kill me by cutting off my circulation.
And I am there.
Our first Christmas celebration started on the 23rd and my favorite jeans felt comfy. I wore them again last night when my bestie and her family came over and I had trouble focusing on the conversation at hand because those same jeans were trying to murder me. Or at least it felt that way.
Aside from eating way too much, it was one of the best Christmases ever. Because, for the very first time in my 39 years of living in the South, there was snow on Christmas day! And it was absolutely breathtaking. We ended up with about a half foot of snow in the yard.
So I thought I'd link up with Dumb Mom over at Parenting by Dummies today for Wordful Wednesday and show y'all some of my snow pics...
Y'all have a great day! I'm gonna go see what I can find to do today that will keep my mind off the cakes and cookies that are still lurking around my kitchen.
